Dr. David K. Moore
DR. DAVID K. MOORE
ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Dr. David K. Moore began his career in Miami-Dade County Public Schools 23 years ago and has worked his way to Assistant Superintendent with one simple goal, to always do what is best for children. This simple goal has been the motivation behind every vision he has had and every decision he has made. As the Assistant Superintendent of the Division of Academic Support, which encompasses the Education Transformation Office, Student Services, and the Office of School Improvement, Dr. Moore has effectively shifted District staff to maximize support provided to schools without compromising the quality of support. This reflective, solutions-oriented, and innovative leader has been the driving force in reducing the number of “F” schools from 16 to 0 over the last 2 years. Similarly, the number of “D” schools was reduced from 29 to 14, where 9 schools were one point away from earning a letter grade of “C.” Also significant to mention are soaring graduation rates up to 80.7 percent for the 2016-2017 school year, an increase of over 4 percentage points from 76.6 during 2013-2014. This increase is a result of Dr. Moore’s vision to create a comprehensive tracking tool that monitors students meeting graduation requirements beginning when a student enters 9th grade. During this time, Dr. Moore was also instrumental in developing and launching the Values Matter Miami campaign, a successful initiative that improves student culture throughout the District.
As a former principal, Dr. Moore had the opportunity to serve in two schools that received a letter grade of “F” prior to his assignment. While in these schools, he was able to demonstrate significant improvement in student achievement, such as increasing the school’s graduation rate from 45% to 78% and the school grade from a “D” to an “A” and maintained the “A”. As an administrative director, Dr. Moore had the opportunity to develop and organize a specific support system which aligned and monitored the support provided to 108 of the District’s most fragile schools. Under his leadership, he realigned his team to ensure they supported the development of sustainable practices within the schools. Due to this alignment and systematic thinking, schools experienced significant rates of improvement while at the same time requiring less support from the District
This year, we are committed to making magic happen for our students by exploring limitless opportunities to enhance their lives. As one of the newest additions to the Education Transformation Office (ETO), I am excited to have the chance to support the visions of dynamic leaders across the district in an effort to alter the trajectory of the lives of the students in our most fragile schools. Our collective goal is to ensure that schools foster a positive culture that permeates throughout the building and to create an academic program that is sustainable. Another goal will be Principal development because LEADERSHIP MATTERS! I am certain that we continue the academic success that we experienced last school year and we will do it hand in hand because your success is my goal. Have a great school year.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

It is my privilege and honor to serve as the Administrative Director for the Division of Academic Support. As shared earlier this year, we are keepers of expectation. As keepers of expectation, it is our charge to establish and monitor standards, structures, and expectations bell-to-bell, day-to-day. As a united front, (administrators, teachers, coaches, Instructional Supervisors, Curriculum Support Specialists), we are able to make magic happen in and out of the classroom. To that end, I am extremely excited to work side by side with each of you, as we continue to accelerate student achievement and make a difference in the lives of the children we support.
It is with great excitement, pride and humility that I begin our work to serve the students, teachers, administrators and communities of tiered and non-tiered schools across the district. There is no better time than now and no better place than here to prove how collectively, given the right skill-set and will-set, we can “obliterate the wall separating hope and opportunity”. I bring to this opportunity more than 17 years of experience as a teacher, instructional coach, principal, state and district administrator. We look forward and are committed to providing world-class support, innovative data tools and ongoing collaborative practices that will undoubtedly lead to improve instructional delivery and historic levels of success for our schools.
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. We are committed to supporting all of you in transforming education for all students. I truly believe that by being transparent, honest about the needs, and being reflective, there is not one situation that we cannot improve. I am impressed with the level of commitment we see from administrators, coaches and teachers every day to enhance outcomes for our clients, the students. Please continue to set and hold all stakeholders accountable to improve the quality of instruction. Push yourselves and challenge each other to build capacity to ensure our students reach new heights. Your hard work and commitment does not go unnoticed. Please know that you are truly transforming education, one student, one classroom, one school at a time. You are on the frontline of the work every day.
